A Taste of Mexico - Cookery Course
The food of Mexico has the distinction of being one of the world's first fusion cuisines. It uses an alluring blend of flavours from the Spanish with those of this country's fascinating indigenous people. Mexican food is known world-wide for its hot and spicy kick, yet its truly authentic dishes have much more to offer than just heat!
This stimulating four-week cookery course will develop your culinary flair and provide you with a range of Mexican recipes. The course allows participants to develop their culinary skills by experimenting with fresh local produce and exploring quick and versatile methods to cook mouth-watering Mexican dishes.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course will commence on Thursday 14th September 2017. You will attend college for four weeks, every Thursday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, WA10 1PP.
What will I study?
The course will allow you to explore various ingredients, develop some basic skills in Mexican cuisine and encourage you to develop your own creative culinary ideas.
You will learn new skills in culinary techniques to produce a range of dishes that could include:
- Mexican Mole
Course participants will be able to develop their awareness of Health and Safety relating to the preparation of food, food safety awareness, practical knife skills and stove control, whilst learning logical and coherent methods for producing Mexican dishes.
How is it assessed?
There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
There are no formal entry requirements, as with all of our leisure cookery courses, the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy. The course is suitable for all levels of ability. The course price includes all ingredients. Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.
You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron, a potato peeler, tea towel, and an oven glove.
What are the course fees?
The total cost of this course is £120. The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session. You can take home your creations to enjoy.
