Beginners' Short Course in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour
This short leisure course is designed for people who own a dog and would like to learn the basic principles and practices of dog training. The course is delivered by an experienced Animal Management tutor.
You will also explore various aspects of canine behaviour and communication focussing on the dog as a sociable animal and its interaction in society. Identifying how dogs' behaviour can be interpreted by observations of the canine communication system.
The course is held in our Animal Management Unit at our Technology Centre Campus, WA9 1TT.
What will I study?
The course will cover:
- Dog behaviour
- Review of current training theories
- Positive training techniques
- Application of training methods
The course is delivered in a very relaxed manner with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and group discussion. Candidates are encouraged to take part with the handling of dogs.
How is it assessed?
The course is aimed to increase your own knowledge of dog training and canine behaviour so there will be no formal assessment. A college participation certificate will be issued for those that attend.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
No previous qualifications required, just a willingness to learn!

The cost of the course is £45.
