Designing Beds and Borders Short Course

Designing Beds and Borders Short Course

Designing your own beds or borders is often thought of as difficult and complicated. However, this short course will dispel all those myths and show that with a small amount of planning, very good and creative results can be achieved.

Topics covered:

  • Assessing the site and aspect
  • Soil pH and soil assessment
  • Choosing plants for year round colour
  • Plant groupings and plant characteristics
  • Aftercare and maintenance
  • Completed garden plans

The course is held at our Horticulture Base at Sherdley Park Campus. The course is delivered in a very relaxed manner with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and group discussion.

The course is aimed to increase your own knowledge of the subject matter so there will be no formal assessment. A college participation certificate will be issued for those that attend.

No previous qualifications are required, just a willingness to learn! Outdoor clothing and footwear are required. Please also bring a notepad and some writing/drawing materials with you.

Once I finish the course, what can I go on to do?
We have a wide range of short courses available from our Horticulture Department, including Designing & Planting Summer Hanging Baskets, Grow Your Own Fruit & Veg and many more.
