Flavours From the Earth - Veggie and Vegan Cookery
This stimulating cookery course is intended to develop your knowledge of vegetarian and vegan cookery.
Vegetables and grains can be cooked in a variety of creative and diverse ways to bring out the best and most satisfying flavours imaginable. Tempting dishes such as potato gnocchi alla trapanese and almond pesto and veggie feijoada with sweet potato and kidney beans, prove that vegan or vegetarian food can also be vibrant and taste great.
During the course, you will use a variety of local products, spices and herbs to prepare and cook a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. You will also develop an understanding of how to prepare and cook foods using a variety of techniques in creating, balance, texture and taste.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course will start on Thursday 5th March 2020. You will attend College for four weeks, every Thursday evening, from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.
What will I study?
You will be presented with a range of recipes and some of the dishes may include:
- Shiitake mushroom and cheese fritters with escalivada
- Potato gnocchi alla trapanese and almond pesto
- Veggie feijoada with sweet potato & kidney beans
- Cauliflower quinoa meatballs in coconut and turmeric sauce
- Eggplant and chick pea curry
You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.
How is it assessed?
There is no formal assessment.
You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.
As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.
You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron and a tea towel.
Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.
What are the course fees?
The total cost of this course is £120. The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session. You can take home your creations to enjoy.
What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
You may wish to progress on to our other Colours Cookery School courses or alternatively you may wish to pursue an accredited qualification in this subject which will allow you to practice your skills in the trade.
