This course is perfect for beginners who want to develop their digital skills, to draw and paint images.

The course will be delivered remotely online. Therefore, it is important that you have a computer or laptop at home that is able to run software such as Photoshop and that you have a personal tablet to use during the classes.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various start dates throughout the year and will take up to 11 weeks to complete.

This course will take place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will be able to download free software called KRITA, which is similar to Photoshop, onto your home computer or laptop.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to use this software to draw, paint and blend using various tools, including soft brushes and blending modes.

Initially, you will learn to create simple objects, such as a sphere or apple and then apply shadow, form and depth to the object.

You will gradually move onto a more complex object such as portraits, landscapes or perspective drawings, using different techniques and tools within the software.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.

As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy the course!

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. The course will focus on beginners level, so no previous experience is required.

Learners with some experience may still want to join the course, to develop their skill.
