A Taste of China - Cookery Course
Chinese food is famous all over the world, but you may be shocked by its surprising range and variety of ingredients if you've only eaten in Chinese restaurants abroad.
Chinese food has countless delicious and fantastic dishes. And people from different areas have different cuisine types, which can be bland, sweet, salty, spicy, or sour.
This stimulating four-week cookery course will develop your culinary flair and provide you with a range of Chinese recipes. The course allows participants to develop their culinary skills by experimenting with fresh local produce and exploring quick and versatile methods to cook mouth-watering dishes.
Whether you are an amateur cook or a food lover, on these enjoyable short cookery courses, you will be taught alongside likeminded people by passionate chefs with significant experience.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course is due to start in January 2021. You will attend college on Tuesday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm, for four weeks.
This cookery course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, WA10 1PP
What will I study?
The course will allow you to explore various ingredients, develop some basic skills in Chinese cuisine and encourage you to develop your own creative culinary ideas.
You will learn new skills in culinary techniques to produce a range of dishes that could include:
- Chicken Chow Mein
- Kung Po
- Blackbean Sauce based dishes
- Oyster Sauce based dishes
- Spring rolls
- Prawn toast
Course participants will be able to develop their awareness of Health and Safety relating to the preparation of food, food safety awareness, practical knife skills and stove control, whilst learning logical and coherent methods for producing Chinese dishes.
How is it assessed?
There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
There are no formal entry requirements, as with all of our leisure cookery courses, the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.
You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron, tea towel, and an oven glove.
Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.
What are the course fees?
The total cost of this course is £120. The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session. You can take home your creations to enjoy.
What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
You may wish to progress onto out other Colours Cookery School courses or alternatively you may wish to pursue an accredited qualification in this subject which will allow you to practice your skills in the trade.
